Offensive line is another of the strange positions for the Browns. Joe Thomas rules. Eric Steinbach mostly rules. Alex Mack ruled a lot more toward the end of the Browns season than he did throwing wild shotgun snaps early on. I guess Womack is pretty solid depth on the right side. The offensive line looked horrible when Jamal Lewis was running behind them. After Jerome Harrison exploded the last few weeks of the season they looked a lot better. Neither quarterback really did much to make them look spectacular. I think the consensus amongst Browns fans is that the Browns could use a prospect at right tackle and additional depth anywhere and everywhere.
Tony Pashos, signed this off-season, should fit in nicely somewhere on the right side of the line, preferably at right tackle. You would think that with this addition and other needs all over the field that the Browns wouldn’t draft any offensive linemen, but I don’t know. The Browns have enough picks that I wouldn’t be too surprised if they ended up finding some value on the offensive line after their first two picks.

What the Browns Could Do
As with every other position, the Browns could get someone of value with one of their third round picks (numbers 71, 85, and 92 overall.) I actually don’t expect the Browns to do that though. I am guessing that the Browns will be bargain hunting for experienced offensive linemen later in the draft. I won’t pretend for a second that I am informed enough to handicap the offensive linemen that might be available and good prospects in the fifth round of the NFL draft. I will leave those duties to Scouts, Inc.
The Browns have three 5th round picks (134, 146, 160 overall) and the following offensive linemen appear to be decent 4th and 5th round prospects according to Scouts. I am including the 4th rounders because when it gets that far into the draft, you never know who is going to “drop.”
98. OT Ed Wang, Virginia Tech
109. OG John Jerry, Ole Miss
112. OT Sam Young, Notre Dame
125. OT Adam Ulatoski, Texas
126. OT Ciron Black, LSU
132. OG Brandon Carter, Texas Tech
135. OT Jason Fox, Miami
136. OG Mitch Petrus, Arkansas
147. OT Chris Scott, Tennessee
149. OT Rodger Saffold, Indiana
150. OG Shawn Lauvao, Arizona State
152. OT/OG Chris Marinelli, Stanford
Not much else to say about these names other than keep a look out for them as the 5th round starts to develop. Hopefully some of the names at the top of the list will be listed in the “Best Still Available” scroll on ESPN’s coverage.
